The U.S. War On Terror

On September 11th, 2001, a day that will live on in US History as a black cloud day, we, the American public was attacked in broad daylight by terrorists from the group Al-Qaeda.
The American people were so outraged at this attack, that we blindly accepted the reasoning from the current President, and then allowed our representatives to acknowledge the war against an unseen enemy was a real and earth shattering event, met only with bringing the fight to our invisible foe.
To this day, the only face for this organization has been 1-3 people, from Bin Laden to Zawahiri, and back again.  Not a day has gone by to put the millions of faces that fight with these guys against the American public.  Not one.
What I find strange, and almost prophetic is the amount of people that were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center, and the amount of soldiers that have died in this 13 year war, is almost at the ten thousand mark, combined, and now wonder if that is the mark that has been set for withdrawal from the war itself.
Three thousand citizens died on the day of the attacks, and sixty seven hundred soldiers since then.  So, my question is this, is the withdrawal from a battle that we have lost, in two countries, now set on a course to be complete after or before we hit the ten thousand dead line?
If 2014 comes and goes, and we are not completely withdrawn from Afghanistan, I have to believe that the date line has moved to the casualty line of departure.  If we are not at 10,000 dead, we will not leave.  This is the new line of departure from Afghanistan, and the war on terror.
During this war, we have thrown every imaginable kind of weaponry at the archaic nemesis in Afghanistan, from bombs to radar, we have tried, and it has failed.
Do you know why?  My theory is this, if a occupying force that is staunchly for conventional war fighting attacks a force of unconventional fighters, in the indigenous population country, the outcome is going to be a disaster.  The occupiers might gain ground incrementally, but at a cost that would feed the reverse three to one formula.
Stanley McChrystal understood the mechanism of the fight when he was in command.  Unfortunately, he was not able to continue the fight in these terms, due to not letting his actions speak for him.
A conventional force structure works great when fighting another force that is utilizing conventional warfare.   This kind of warfare works great when fighting a force that is attacking your position, but has a negative effect if the indigenous population is using unconventional methods.

The New DAP vs. the old GOP

Once again, the GOP in Texas has managed to do the wrong thing at the right time.  Just after announcing that Rick Perry would not seek reelection to the Governors Throne for Texas, a bill is announced that closes the majority of abortion clinics in Texas, effectively ostracizing the woman vote for the next Governor to deal with.  Can anyone say Wendy Davis for Governor?  The GOP should now be called the DAP, which stands for the Dumb Ass Party.  If you think for a minute that the White House is not chomping at the bit to endorse a new Democrat governor, then you have got to be one of those cave men under one of those rocks.

There has never been a better chance for Texas to become a Democrat state than now.  Between immigration and abortion, the state is ripe for a leadership change, to include the senators that would like to get reelected in 2014, if your a Republican, and you just voted for the abortion bill, your days are numbered.

This is Texas, so keep the saying, "Don't let the door hit ya, where your momma split ya" in the back of your mind, when it comes to reelection in 2014.

Those that should leave the Military during a drawdown

I really get a kick out of the people that respond to such stories in Military Newspapers.  The latest article that I took a look at was how the Military was going to filter approximately 47,000 people out of the ranks due to a draw down of personnel coming out of the War in Iraq, and the lessening of troops in Afghanistan.  The article, while meticulous in form, is written by an individual that has spent maybe three years in the Army, and has seen the same 100 soldiers since the day of his time as a leader.  With this satchel of knowledge strung on his back, he has convinced himself that he now has the knowledge and skills to tell the Army his opinion of who should stay and who should go.  While Freedom of Speech is a right that has been inherited by all Americans, the right to keep your thoughts to yourself is covered under Free Will, and should be exercised freely and often.  It is my opinion, in contrast to the writer of this story, that O1, and O2 officers should not automatically be promoted to O3, a rank that carry's a tremendous load of responsibility, and that the O1 and O2 officers that are not recommended for O3, be voluntold to resign their commissions at the end of the fiscal year, freeing the enlisted ranks of having to put up with leadership that has not grasped the concept of being a leader.
I do agree with  the young leader that P3 profile having soldiers and leaders should be medically retired, not chaptered, and not kicked out.  Doing this would assist those combat veterans in getting the long term care that they need, and provide them with a retirement check while they go through the process.  After all, it was not their decision to go to war, get an injury, either mental, physical, or a combination of both, and it was not their decision to pull out the soldiers from the zones of combat.  Another option for utilizing these personnel is to have the WTU's become the instructor procurement agencies for the Army.  Most of the soldiers int he WThe Big Book of Jobs 2011-2012 By McGraw-Hill (COR) (Google Affiliate Ad)TU have real-life combat experience, need On the Job Experience, and can get that as Instructors transitioning into Management positions outside of the Army.Ten Steps to a Federal Job By Troutman, Kathryn/ Chen, Paulina (EDT)/ (Google Affiliate Ad)Great Jobs for Business Majors By Lambert, Stephen E. The Targeting of U.S. Military Personnel from Within

This story has put spears into my heart from the day that I joined the U.S. Army.  At the past five duty stations, to include Germany I have had the bad experience personally, and have had to counsel soldiers on the many rip offs that are right outside the gates of many major military posts.  The advertising is straight forward and is designed to attract the young soldiers that have not established their credit, having basically come from their mothers aprons and into the fight.  Advertisers use such things as "Will Finance E-1 and up"  which basically comes down to, "We will give you a piece of junk car or loan, charge you 22% interest on the money financed, and also, as a bonus, put in the fine print, that we are not responsible for the working conditions of the vehicle at the time of purchase."  These advertisements don't actually say these things, they instead just stick out in bold print, trying to lure the proverbial bees to fake honey.  Now, the military does try to assist the soldiers by giving them insight into the dealings of these anti-american businesses, but, other than trying to put these establishments off limits, the fact remains, that there is little to do to stop this kind of fraud.
The next bit of crappy advertising comes at the price of the soldier that needs money, has spent all of his paycheck, and is about to get the car that he bought from the first disreputable dealer repossessed.  These places really get me fired up, because they advertise such things as "Payday Loans" and "Title Loans" with the idea that if you take out a high percentage loan from them, and pay them back on payday, that they will have helped you out of a jam, and allowed you to live outside of your means.  This kind of blasphemy leads the soldier to believe that it is okay, not fully knowing that they will not be able to pay off the loan on the next payday, as the interest payment that has accrued, has done so on a daily basis, and is now half as much as the original loan.
